Hey everyone, I just recently bought some bionic 2 part calcium buffer, and I want to automate the dosing. I think I'm going with a couple BRS dosing pumps and a couple of digital timers. My question is what should I store the stuff in? Can I just put it in a gallon jug or something of the sort, or does it have to be air tight or something else? I'd rather not have to buy anything for containing it, but I will if it's necesarry.

Thanks!

Whatever you select cannot be airtight or a vacuum will be created as you pump out the liquid.

With that in mind, be creative and use something you have on hand - possibly even in your recycle bin. HDPE will be the best material (but any food grade plastic should work) and you should find it to be prevalent.

I originally used 1 gallon juice jugs for my alk and calc with a hole drilled into the cap to fit the tubing. I've since gone to cereal containers (that I got from Walmart). What I like about these is that they have a wide opening that makes refilling them very easy.

I also cut tubing weights out of scrap acrylic to hold the tubing to the bottom of the containers.

Thanks for the heads up mcarroll, didn't even think of that. I just happen to have a few unused cereal containers lieing around, so I'll probably use those. Thanks for the idea redbluefish!

FYI, rigid airline tubing also works for getting to the bottom of the container you choose.
