Dosing Copper while running UV?

I am hearing that dosing copper (in a FOWLR Tank) while running a UV sterilizer breaks the copper down and actually makes it more toxic for the fish. Has anyone had any firsthand experience with this? Should copper just be used for a hospital tank?
