So is it simply a recommendation to dose equal parts calcium and alkalinty? My situation is if i dose 30ml/day of calcium I stay around 425 . I can dose 20ml alk and get 8.5, 22.5ml day 8.7, and 25 to get 9.0. Haven't tried 30 ml but was keeping my tank at 8.5. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks

What dosing additive are you using? If it's the b-Ionic 2 part then yes you have to dose equally as stated in the instructions. If your using the BRS 2 part then it doesn't have to be done equally.

Also when dosing if your levels are raising after you dose your adding to much. You dose to get your levels where you want them. Then only dose the amount that your corals are uptaking so that your levels don't move off of the number you want them at.

I'm using oceans blend. Plan on switching to b-ionic when I run out. The numbers I stated are what holds at that level, not what raises it. I dose with an apex dos over many hours.

What happens with b-ionic if u don't dose equal parts??

You'll never get your levels to stay stable. It'll constintly fluctuate and seriously mess with your pH. It's what I use. The calcium isn't just calcium it's got something else added which will mess things up if not don't equally with the two part. To tell you the truth I can't remember exactly why it has to be done equally but do know it has to be done that way from experience. I did it unequally because I thought my uptake was unequal and was never able to dial my dosing amount in. That's until I decided to believe what the label said, switches to equal amounts and what do you know levels stayed rock solid. Not familiar with oceans blend sorry.

Ocean blend says equal parts but I've been splitting it, granted not a lot, but the numbers are rock solid.

Dosing uneven amounts of a perfectly designed two part usually comes about because water changes mess with the expected demand ratio. Some two parts may not also be perfectly designed.

So for that reason, it is fine to dose somewhat unevenly if testing over many days (not 1 or 2 or 3) shows it is needed. :)

If u were me would u dose 30ml of alk as well? Probably put my DkH around 9.3 or so. 30ml is what I need to keep my calcium at 425. Other problem is that I use red sea coral pro, it always raises my alk after h20 change. I usually turn alk dosing off for 2 days following water change.
