Dosing Fluconazole for Bryopsis with measurement question

I just received my 1.5 g packet of fluconazole which the instructions say to dose 20mg per gallon. The only thing I have that I think I can measure with is a .05 ml spoon from a salifert magnesium test kit. My question , is the .05 ml spoon the same as 50 milligrams? I found a conversion page online but it says water in parentheses which makes me believe liquid and solids might be different measurements even though the spoon is used to measure grains of whatever testing element you scoop out is. I really need some help on this cause I want to make sure I dose the correct amount.

My tank is 40 gallons

I’m assuming you have some live rocks in your tank. So given the live rock and water displacement in your tank, then, yes, half of that bag will treat your 40 gal tank.

Yea I have about 35-45lbs of live rock not exactly sure the true amount but guess half should do it like you said, thanks for the help.

Sure no problem. Make sure you have your skimmer turned off and no water changes during the entire duration of treatment. Be patient. You won’t notice major effect until probably ~day 8-10.

Well I don’t have a lot of bryopsis and I slowed the growth down a lot by lowering nitrates to .05 ppm so I’m guessing it won’t take as long as people with a bad infestation of it. I’m very patient though so I can wait 8-10 days. Wow that seems like a long time to leave the skimmer off , kinda a scary thought.

I can only share with you what I did. I wanted complete eradication and didn’t want a slight chance that the drug would get removed by the skimmer. My skimmer is overated for my tank.

I actually treated mine for a full 14 days. I also was initially worried about not running my skimmer for such a long time. But everything was fine. My corals(even sps) didn’t seem to mine. I think the lps and zoas actually liked it a little too much. lol.
If you’re worried you can always do a water change immediately before your begin treatment.

I did leave my mechanical filtration(no carbon) in tact during treatment. So filter floss, rubbles, bioballs, and more filter pads. You would be surprised with how much your bio and mechanical filtration could handle. I also cleaned algae of the glass everyday.

I appreciate you sharing your experience with me , it seems like this is pretty good stuff after reading a bunch of scary stuff telling us how the big B will destroy your tank and you have to take all your rocks out and scrub with peroxide lol I’m all set with taking out my rocks cause there’s corals on them so they have to stay in the tank. I definitely like this fluconazole option especially after not finding one bad review about it.
