Hello,

I recently received my first ICP test from ATI and it said I should dose Iodine and inspect equipment for tin. The results have me at 12.77 µg/l iodine and 10.89 µg/l tin.

I went to my lfs and was recommend ESV potassium Iodide 1% solution to increase the iodine. The lfs said to dose it at night 2 times weekly. I could not find any information about dosing it at night is there any truth to this? Also how much should I dose? Any calculators out there similar to the alk/cal ones?

As for the tin the lfs recommended pollyfilter and water changes to help remove it. I already use a little pollyfilter in my overflow. Thinking about running a little more in between my sump baffles. Anyone have experience removing tin or other metals with pollyfilter?

I Checked my equipment for the source of the tin and found some rust on my fuge light bulb(I changed the bulb). It's one of the led grow light bulbs from Amazon with a metal heat sink around it. I also noticed my Flipper mag cleaner had a bit of rust on the blade. Could either of these be the source?

Light I have on my fuge:

Rusting magnets or equipment are usually to blame for tin.

Iodide is quickly taken up by algae and almost all ICP tests come lower than recommended. Start by dosing using ESV instructions on the bottle. I wouldn’t worry too much about being low on the ICP though.

Thanks, I have 2 Jeboa wave makers, and 1 hydor korillia with magnets. Also the Flipper cleaner is magnetic but I don't see anything that looks red around the pumps. I do see some white lines/smears at the back of the Jeboa internal magnet. I can't open it without breaking it though. Think the white could mean rust?

The instructions do not say anything about dosing at night. Guess I can dose when it's convenient. lol

That doesn’t look like rust on the pump. Have you checked your skimmer and heater?

You can use polyfilter and also metasorb or cuprisorb would remove tin.

I don’t know why you’d have to dose iodine at night...

I have not checked the heater. I'll check that next, thanks. Skimmer is good. I actually recently purchased a new one. I'm just looking for rust or metal in contact with the water right?

Yes, it could’ve also come from your rusting light bulb.
