Just planning for the future here, as I don't have my ATO yet and it'll be a few months before my tank is mature enough for corals, but I have a question about things I've been reading on the site.

I understand a lot of people here dose kalkwasser in their ATO reservoir to maintain Ca and alk, and that some calculation is necessary to figure out how much kalk to use. Is anyone willing to walk me through it and explain how this is done?

Hi... Ummm… I'm not a pro at this - but I can tell you what worked for me.
I started by pulling my Ca and dkh numbers... and monitoring them to see how/at what rate it changed. Then, I knew my tank goes through 12 cups of RODI a day. I started off with just a 1/2 teaspoon of Kalk added to the ATO water (my ATO holds 3 gal... so it's a really weak solution). I let that run, and tested often... Now, I know that for every 3 gallon batch of RODI I make to go into the ATO water, I need a teaspoon of Kalk. It was trial and error, but once you get it dialed in for YOUR system and YOUR corals' needs, it works fine. Steady Ca and dkh made easy.
