need to get sme feed back on this....I hve been thinking about dosing kalk for quite a sme time now but dnt know much about it...i know a lot of members mix it in their auto topoff and sme use reactors.....whats the best route to go with..so far i am thinking about just mixing it with my top off....but not for sure...how does the reactor work ..do u plumb it through ur topoff or is theres another way to do it

How big is your tank? I just drip a gallon or so at night to help keep the PH more stable. I don't really use it for anything else. I am thinking of getting an Avast marine Kalk stirrer myself to maybe help me cut back on my 2 part dosing. Sorry I couldn't supply you with more info. I'm sure someone will chime in soon...

I just add it to my top off found it to be the easiest way. If you do that you should probably elevate you pump a few inches off the bottom so you aren't pumping in the residue at the bottom.

I done quit a bit of research because I plan on using Kalk to help keep water conditions stable. For my application a Kalk Stirrer seems to be best. A Kalk Reactor will do the same job as a Kalk Stirrer but with a reactor the pump needs replaced more often than I like.

I switched from two part to avast Kalk reactor. I dose my Kalk through a dosing pump as I was afraid of biking my tank going through the ato. Right now I dose 60 ml x 24 times a day

Once a week I adjust the ca and alk if needed.

What you do just like ca reactor and two part is get your ca and alk where you want it and then find the dosage of Kalk that keeps the ca and alk levels stable

I use a geo 618 Ca and a 618 Kalk reactor: set them and almost forget them.
The "best" path depends on how much demand you have. Small tanks (under 150) or small demand and I think the two part system would be easier and cheaper.

mid size tanks and mature reefs demand more than most two parters want to be troubled contending with every day. So using reactors that are constantly dripping and need to be filled or checked much less often than a two-part dosing is easier and more stable.

Like most stuff dealing with a reef tank it depends on many things from time to knowledge. What works for me may be very impracticle for you or vice versa

i hve a 100 gallon tank with full of sps and lps.....i dose roughly about 50ml each of alk/cal and about 10ml of magnesium every day through LM111 and two of it slave pumps...recently i hve been dealing with ph issues and i hve lost sme of my priced corals ......
these r my tank parameters
alk 9.5 to 10 dkh
calcium 475 to 500
Magnesium 1475 to 1500
temp 76 to 78
salinity 35 to 37

those are great numbers: for the sake of newer keepers could you also post pH. That is a number that gets forgotten sometimes

My numbers are very similar to those with the exception that I keep the Mg a little higher due to having had brysophysis. For what ever reason if the mag number dips I get a little patch appear right away.

btw: my pH is 8.4

sorry forgot...
ph 7.90 to 8.12
alk 9.5 to 10 dkh
calcium 475 to 500
Magnesium 1475 to 1500
temp 76 to 78
salinity 35 to 37

I have a 220 gal tank and with sump/fuge and frag tank all plumbed together I have about 280 gal of total water volume. I dose 250ml of BRS 2 part everyday and like I said earlier I dose kalk at night to keep the PH more stable. My numbers are almost identical to yours except my Ph stays at 8.3 to 8.4 now that dose kalk too.

Kalkwasser

I use a CA reactor and dose Kalkwasser. I use a BRS dosing pump for the Kalkwasser that is connected to a digital timer. I have a 180 SPS Tank, with a 30 Frag tank plumbed, and a 40 sump/fuge. I run the dosing pump all night, from lights out until about 7 PM, and then shut it down for a few hours. Starts up again at around 11:00 PM or so about 90 mins after system goes totally dark. I mix 2.5 gallons of Kalkwasser roughly twice a week.

My ALK 9.0
CA 430
MG 1500
PH 8.1 (AM) to 8.25 (end of light cycle).
