Dosing Lanthanum Chloride - A Personal Experience

I’ve been using brightwells phosphate E for years now to control my phosphates in my SPS dominate tank and never had an issue. I have yellow , regal and kole tangs with no issues.

@Dr. Reef Did anyone workout a dilution if the Seaklear product that matches the strength and instructions of Phosphate RX or Phosphate E?

Problem with using LC is that it rids phosphate really quickly. So I suggest the most diluted mix yiu can do start from there. I remember towards the end I was diluting 1 drop of seaklear in 1 gal of rodi water to keep my phos at 0.03. That 1 gal 1 drop mixture was being dosed 4 times a day just a few ml each time. It's been a while that I did this so I am not 100% of the excat numbers. But in the beginning I was using more and when phos started to fall I didn't need it that much.

Id been running something like that but was just wondering if someone had simply identified the strength of any commercial product and we can mix to that in order to be able to use their instructions.

An old file I found on the net. Tried contacting the author for clarification but no such luck.
Can't remember how to attach a excel file.

@chicago
In situation like this and the fish is so out of it that it can be netted... net the thing and put in a 5g bucket with newly made up SW until things get stablized

never ever use. my 2 cents worth and loss of some nice fish nd corals. ones that went brown and survived are just now coming back.

How did you dose it?

It is an interesting and IMO, unanswered, question of why some folks have fish issues (typically tangs) while many folks do not.

How much should I dose?
My phosphate Hanna reading are .03-.1, in a reactor I use 15 Tbs of gfo every 3-4 wks to lower them. Would using a solution of 1 drop of seaklear to 1 gallons of RODI mixture, and dosing couple drops 4x/day be enough to keep them stable and stop using gfo. TIA

How is this method going for you on controlling phosphates?

I am still using like a drop or 2 mixed in a gal of rodi water. Dosing 1ml x 2 times a day so a total of 2ml or 3ml if needed per day.

Has it been established that the white film sometimes reported is actually Lanthanum phosphate precipitate? Cleaned my sand regeneration pump today in 10% Hydrochloric and the white stuff sheeted off like a bacterial mat of some sort. I was expecting it to dissolve but it didn't (perhaps Lanthanum phosphate doesn't?) I expect it's not related but you never know,lol.

Lanthanum phosphate will dissolve in strong enough acid (which drops the free PO4— concentration so low that insoluble phosphates will dissolve), but i do not know what pH is needed and I have not seen analysis of any solids formed from lanthanum dosing.
