dosing magnesium with a pump?

I only dose Mag when I do water changes. I will mix the Mag in with the water bringing it up to the correct level over the course of 24 hours while the saltwater is mixing.

Mg dosing is such an intermittent thing that I doubt you want to feed it to the tank on any kind of consistent basis with a pump. I also dose Mg primarily at water-change time.

Agreed.

I used to dose it on a pump... ONLY because I had a four pump doser and had an unused pump ;) I removed it because it dosed such a small amount, and I didn't want to have any other risk factors in my system (IME/IMO any automation is a HUGE risk factor - simply cannot trust them, everything is bound to fail at some point).

My initial magnesium dosing was after years of operation on my 55g.

Magnesium had dropped to 700-800. I added literally pounds (like 3-4) of epsom salts.

Magnesium got up to 1350 and everything seemed unaffected.

What I do now is add the 300ml of part 3 from the diy two part to my 1 gallon calcium. So that there is 1g total.

That seems to keep the magnesium pretty close.

then measure ever 3-4 months or so.
