I have heard of a few people dosing microbacter7 as a way to help prevent RTN/STN. The theory is that bacteria can be a cause of the tissue necrosis and that the beneficial bacteria in MB7 may outcompete the harmful bacteria. Is anybody else doing this with success? I have just started this as a prevention technique, I currently do not have any frags with issues but I know that can change overnight so I am just whispering this.

I think it’s a stretch to think that nitrifying bacteria would prevent STN/RTN directly. If a tank isn’t properly cycled then yea it would help.

There is no evidence that a substance can grow bacteria deemed beneficial that can then outcompete bacteria that you do not want. What is more likely is that all bacteria suffer or thrive in like kind - high tide raises all ships, kind of thing. This same kind of theory applied to carbon dosing and stuff too... again with no evidence of any kind that it works.

Honestly, it seems like a bunch of bunk to me... maybe to sell more of a kind of product. This might be harsh, but it occurs to me that if these people focused this same effort on strong parameters, best quality lighting and highest stability and they might have much STN/RTN in the first place. STN and RTN just does not happen for no reason.
