Dosing nitrate question.

What is the max ppm you can dose in 1 sitting? Is it safe for example to try and get nitrates from 2ppm to 10ppm in 1 dosing shot?

I've dosed 5ppm at a time with no issue. I've seen Randy mention a jump like this as no big deal.

I’d recommend no more than 1 ppm in 24 hrs. 2 ppm is already pushing it. Dose and wait till the next day at same time and test and dose again if needed. I’m speaking more from an SPS standpoint. NO3 can have a lag effect.

In my case, nothing was bothered by the jump (sps included)

@Randy Holmes-Farley might have some better idea. I have done 5ppm in a single sitting without ill effects.

I don’t know what daily boost is optimal, but I do not recall seeing anyone post a bad experience with any normal sized dose of food grade sodium nitrate. I usually recommend doses of around 2 ppm per day as a starting dose and see what happens. That may not be enough for a continued rise, but may be plenty for organisms to get enough N.
