This sounds strange, but let me preface this with: I have an algae scrubber, a total of 3 fish, in a 350 gallon system. I'm in the 7th month of my system. I'm sure my rocks have some phosphates they're leaching. I'm hoping that my scrubber will "Pull" the phosphates out of the rock over a 12 month period. It's consistently full of hair algae every week. With only 3 fish in the system and feeding lightly. Some days not feeding at all.
However, this causes my nitrates to be zero... While I still have detectable phosphates. I've been dosing nitrates, the corals are loving it. As well as my scrubber. I dosed around 15 ml of Brightwell's nitrates per week and have had really good results. Can I add a larger volume to either my alkalinity or my calcium dosing containers? (Have a bubble magus dosing system). I would like to dose and forget vs. dosing 10 ml all at once. If I added a 100 ml to my alk container and set it to dose the mixture 20 ml a day or whatever. It would get some blend of alk and nitrates over time. (maybe less than 1 ml a day). Is that an option or would it evaporate out or something?
