I am about to set up a new tank(just a cube tank with sump) and i am wanting to start a better dosing regimen. Right now I dose stonium(once every 3 days) calcium(low ammounts every day), and iodine(small ammounts every day) I also add 1table spoon of dt's every day or so. I want to keep my alk up a little higher (it stays right around 7.5-8) and I want to still make sure I have my ph at at least 8.2 and keep everything in check. the new tank will be primarilly sps. I have been looking at a few different setups and the the 2 part one seems like it would work well with the addition of iodine and trace elements, but research does nothing compared to actual experience, so I am asking for some input.

I think donny got in alot of good affrordable two part bulk additives. you may check with him on that stuff. As for advice I dont think anyone local has alot of hands on experience. we all have dosed stuff to maintain certain levels. but I dont think anyone has followed a two part regime enough to give advice. you should try contacting "fishdoc" on the East tennessee reef club forrums. Ive been told he doses a two part. and is said to have an amazing sps tank. here is a link to there site

thanks. I'll try to talk to him. I can't seem to find anyone that follows anything like that and can really explain everything too well.

My advice would be to stop dosing strontium you don't need this.

Back off the iodine to maybe once a week if your tank is very heavily stocked and overskimmed. I believe you don't even run a skimmer currently so I would probably hold off on this too for now.

Trace element wise i'd just stick to a small bi-weekly water change with a high quality salt. Reef Crystals is one I prefer but there are others.

I'm currently using a CaRx for my Calcium/Alkalinity additives. I'm running the zeovit system for all other additives, but don't think you're setup would work well with this method at this time as Heavy Skimming, Stong Light, etc are all prerequisites..

Just my 2 cents.

I've used B-Ionic exclusively for 10+ years and never had an issue with pH, alk, or calcium. I've successfully grown all types of corals. I'm switching to Bulk Reef Supply two part as soon as the current supply of B-Ionic is gone, purely for cost/convenience reasons. If you're doing regular water changes, your other additives are not necessary. I'm with bkv and would definitely back off on the strontium and iodine. My guess is you're currently overdosing both of those.

If you're not skimming, you need to be doing regular (weekly) water changes anyway and that will take care of your trace elements.

well I am looking at things for a new setup. only reason I'm not skimming is my skimmer got broke by me not securing a rock in the tank. kinda broke the intake tube for the skimmer. (note. It was stupid when I get a new tank setup I will be getting a new skimmer for it, just right now everything is doing pretty good if not better than it was before minus the algea) I am looking at different things to dose in whatever I set up next though. I will be running a skimmer on it.

ps. I am doing water changes almost every 3 days right now. I am slightly behind right now though.

thanks. that was a lot of help. that link for the articles is exactly what I have been looking for. I just went through and read a couple and I already learned a pretty good bit. I want to get the new setup together and all. just waiting on the house to go through and I'll have something setup. (29 is just too small)
