Hey fellow Reefers,

Just some quick questions. I know this has already been gone over, but i wanted to start my own thread to figure out what to do for MY setup.

So my setup is a 40 gallon with sump in the back, its a AIO tank. This is the way my filtration flows;

  • reef octopus BH50 pura
  • Heater
  • PURA filtration pad with a small carbon bag on top
  • Trickles over Bio balls
  • Return pump with UV
My tank has been running for roughly 10 months, coral growth has been fantastic and all parameters look spot on other than P04 and N03. Every time i check them they are near 0 if not always at 0. Ive even fought dino in that time period due to ULN. I've hand dosed Brightwell Aquatics NeoNitro and Brightwell Aquatics NeoPhos to raise them once a week.

My questions are;

  • Should i look into getting a dosing pump setup to dose phos and nitrate?
  • What product should i use if i should dose? (Brightwell Aquatics are $$$)
Just curious of everybody's thoughts.

Thanks!!

I was also told i have higher par readings for a mixed reef tank. And that would uptake some more of the phos and N03. With the higher par i have been seeing amazing growth and color

Feeding more is the easiest answer to implement.

Dosing is certainly a fine idea, although I'm not sure dosing pumps are needed.

I recommend food grade sodium nitrate and phosphate, which you can get from many online retailers. Loudwolf is a brand many folks use for sodium nitrate.

IF you monitor potassium occasionally, potassium nitrate is OK too.

Hi Randy. How long can the solution be stored after its made. Does it tend to degrade over time?
