How long should I leave my uv off while dosing live phytoplankton?

Battling gha + dino

At the same dam time (hip hop heads) lol

Depends on your system, how much you dosed and how big is your uv.

I could not find a tank thread to understand your system better and why are you using UV on a continuous bases.

How are you battling GHA & dinoflagellate and for how long.

I let my uv run 24/7, culture & dose live phyto daily and I haven't seen a difference in leaving it on or turning it off besides water clarity. Corals seem happier with it on,waters clearer and copepod population has exploded. Leave it on brother just dose your phyto straight to the display like coral food instead of the sump. If ur nutrients are high dose mb7 w/ some biofuel. Or if ur levels are where u want em dump some chemiclean in there for 48hrs then do a water change. You will be surprised it wiped my cyano out and turned the gha patches clear all in 48hrs.

@Dana Riddle doses large amounts of live phytoplankton and has found in addittion to enhanced colors on corals, the live phytoplankton in the water with lights on continues to grow and absorb nutrients. Why grow live phyto to put in reef tank, then kill live phyto with uv sterilization?

I love phytoplankton wouldn't run a tank without it. That's amazing other reefers especially one as prominent & important to the hobby as mr riddle is are dosing phytoplankton. Might have to read his take on it. Me personally I'm speaking of my nano if I don't run uv the water gets very slight green tint I like my water to be invisible along with my glass.

As I run larger systems that are skimmerless with a focus on nutrient recycling, I use micro fauna & fana to recycle nutrients into live food to feed hungry mouths. Phytoplankton is a primary producer that uses photosynthesis to turn inert minerals into glucose which is organic carbon. Phytoplankton is the bottom of the food chain.

This is 25 yr mature 75G display with reverse flow under gravel filter and 30G cryptic refugium with miracle mud / detritus filter that grows the “microbial loop” to feed live food to hungry mouths.

I very much like your setup. Especially the recycling nutrients part, I ran my last 75 similarly with great results. With this nano I'm setting up a deep mineral mud & live sand mix with mangroves in the next couple days

So I'm running a 11 watt uv to help battle dinoflagellates, it's been an up hill battle for about 2 months now. I ordered live phyto to start dosing and wasn't sure about having the uv on at the same time.
I'm what is considered to be a noob 11 months in the hobby.

I will say I am seeing a diff with the uv
