Dosing po4

Hi all I’m still trying to get my po4 of zero I have been trying for months and can’t get it to raise . I bought a new po4 supplement and do t understaind the dosing instructions just looking for a little help my tank is about 35 g I want to raise it too a good lever around 0.01 -0.02 I hope the pics help .

I used tri sodium phosphate, food grade. There are calculators around to determine the mixture and how much to use

your reef is 35g = 132.5 liters
1ml per 100 liters for .01 rise in phosphate
so 1.3ml should give you approx. .01ppm

Thanks guys for the replys the tank is about a year and a half old started with dry rock . I have been dosing 3 ml daily and still read zero I have tested with the Hanna ulr and the redsea test kit and still read zero

You may need to dose far more than calculated until the rock and sand has finished taking up phosphate at the level you want to maintain.

Thanks for the reply I’m running bb and just got over a nasty algae I think how I got it is everything bottomed out . I know this is hard to answer but how much would be good to does I would hate to do to much

There is probably not a way to know this because there is no telling how much the rock would take up. Maybe double the dose and test daily.

I’d dose about 0.02 ppm for the first dose.

One of the hardest thing to keep it controlled i was in challenge to get my po4 steady and i am still once after one week of dosing by rate of 0.03 ppm daily and measures 0 at Hanna and one day it went up all up to 0.5 some sps darken out and i get panic seeing that and i fast decreased it and that caused stress to some sps frags which is dying now .. now i am trying to dose as little as i could and just to be sure i am giving some even if its not measured and waiting for my new fish order to increase my fish load and i am planning to feed heavy ... Dosing of po4 and No3 is need very advanced reefer who know exactly how to deal with it ! I am not that one .. but really is adding a challenge to beat this and go for stability which is the one of the every one needs

I really do not know but maybe with more dosing i added reefroids and i used to get detectable po4 using this product . I think this may be the reason

It is not normal for phosphate to suddenly increase by a factor of more than 10, and I suspect test error, or something unexpected (like accidental overdosing).

By the way sir what is the safest increase and decrease amount per day like if i wanna decrease or increase the po4 what will be my safe limit for daily change

It is not normal for phosphate to suddenly increase by a factor of more than 10, and I suspect test error, or something unexpected (like accidental overdosing).

I really do not know but i am sure i got problems not for the sudden increase but for the sudden drop after it because i was panic fear to lose anything stoped the dosing and i added some lanthanum chloride to get it normal again

Hey Guru Randy what’s a good product to use to dose po4? I’m using the Loudwolf sodium nitrate and got my no3 at 2-5ppm but I want to increase my po4 a little bit. Dose Loudwolf make a po4 you would suggest or any other brand you like? Thanks a lot as always!

Amazon has a bunch of food grade sodium phosphate products. I'd look there.

If there's a reason to pick it over sodium phosphate, it's fine if adequately pure.

Unlike nitrate dosing, you are adding far less when phosphate dosing, so the accumulation of potassium is not much concern.
