So I got a bag of assorted pods from my lfs today. I was told to just dump it into my tank at night. Now ive always heard/read to avoid getting lfs water into your tank and have tried to do a good job avoiding it.

Im reluctant to just dump it in but dont know of a good way to strain everything out or if thats even a good idea? It all came from tanks with inverts and featherdusters etc so Im assuming that there isnt any heavy meds in the water.

Any thoughts?

I do not quarantine pods.

These are grown in fish less systems.

I dump right in my sump. Or if dt after lights are off.

@HotRocks @4FordFamily I remember reading that ich Trophont dont attach to crustaceans so qt would be shorter.

Loads of times the water to breed and raise pods is not tank water but its own source. You can call the lfs and ask if this is the case. To be safe I would recommend to wait till you hear from the two individuals I tagged.

I seed the pods at night an hour or so after lights out. I try to invert the pod container into the rock to give them a better chance to thrive

Tomonts can encyst upon the shell of a crustacean. So safest bet if they are propagated in a system that Is tied to a fish system is to hold them in a fallow system for 76 days.

If they are being hatched in a fishless system they are safe to transfer.

For larger crustaceans you can hold them until they molt in a fishless system then they are safe to move as long as they are rinsed well to make sure no free swimmers are transferred.

Thanks @HotRocks

Thanks for all the info everyone. Probably gonna hold off on adding these just yet.

I was adding for my new yellow wrasse. But hes been eating everything else just fine. I lost my last two yellow wrasse and want to make sure this one makes it. The last one got so skinny and died. Dont know if it was parasites or not eating enough. Figured the pods would help but not sure if necessary.

Thanks agai
