Hey all,
So I’m going to have to dose Prazipro into the main display and do a few rounds of it. I will be aiming a powerhead at the top of the water for extra oxygen for the fish. I have trochus snails and peppermint shrimp in the tank also. Should I be removing these guys, or do you think they will last through the prazipro treatment? Also, will the prazipro have any effect on my refugium or pod population?
Thanks

I've used Prazipro with snails and shrip and they were fine. It did kill off a bunch of my amphipods.

My snails were fine. My pods were fine too, but the population might have dipped during treatment. I don’t have shrimp. If you have a skimmer, take the cup off and let it overflow. Good luck.

How do you guys recommend dosing it to the tank? I am running a 120G. Should I do full doses every 3 days instead of the 5-7 days cause I would assume the rock is gonna suck up the meds

I followed the directions on the bottle. It worked well for me.

Awesome, and a powerhead at the top of the water will be enough, or should I pick up an air stone cause prazi depletes 02

Powerhead aimed at the water surface worked for me. Air stones cause salt creep...I don't recommend them.

I would use an air stone, as you need to break the surface tension. The power head can be adjusted to do that, but airstones are more effective. As said though, if you have a skimmer, just take the cup off, that works just as well. The issue is that bacteria grow that consume the prazi and its solvent as food, taking up oxygen at the same time. This is why prazi does not remain active for long in tanks. The spacing for redosing needs to be set to catch any hatching eggs, if the flukes are an egg laying species.

Are you saying to follow the bottle or re dose sooner because it won’t last long in the tank?

I would do 3 doses, one week apart.

I know this is old thread but wanted to ask. I dosed my display tank that only has 2 tangs in it currently with no corals or inverts. My lavender was getting these black spots and scratching. How long after dosing before i turn uv and skimmer on and place carbon back in? I plan on doing at least 2 doses or maybe 3 a week apart. trying to take care of eggs at same time in display to avoid going fallow for so long.

Let somebody else second me that may be more experienced but once you put the carbon in, you will remove the prazipro. I ended up dosing it into the display but personally won’t do it again, rather pull the fish and put it in a QT tank.

I was going to do the quarantine tank but read that display would have to be fallow for like 78 days or more to end life cycle of worms. Long time for tangs to be in small quarantine tank. Was hoping to take care of both at the same time this way.

From what I gather bacteria eats up the prazi pro quickly so not sure what the downside would be in this situation to dose display tank other than requiring a lot more of it. Someone please chime in if I missed something. Otherwise i plan on doing 1-2 more doses a week apart. Figure I will wait 2 weeks after its all done to make sure they are gone before adding more fish.

72 hours is the window I shoot for for uv/skimmer/carbon. I would space the treatments 10 days apart, but I usually run 3 times.

Perfect. I appreciate the help very much. This is actually the wife’s tank and want to make sure I get hers right. :)

Is this with water changes in between?

Typically, when using prazipor, a 25% water change prior to the second and third treatments is suggested.

Got it. Thanks. Are there any ich medications you would recommend that are invert safe? What about invert and coral safe?
