Hello,

It doesn´t sound so clearly, but yes...I would like to use a dosing pump to send water from display (30lts / 8G only) to a Calcium Reactor and back to display.

The point is I have a 30l/8G reef full of corals (now with some LPS and SPS). I use an very old Skilter (more that 20 yeasr old) for fitration and skimming (and it is working very well Thanks God !), but due to the amount of LPS and SPS I would like to use my Calcium Reactor (used on my deactivated bigger SPS Reef).
The Return pump (on the bigger deactivated reef was used also to send ater to Calcium reactor (PRESSURISED), and the force/pressure of that return pump, due to pressurization, sent water back to sump.
On the small reef, there is no return pump. Skilter´s pump makes this function, so I need another pump to send water to Reactor, but there is no Sump or room to another pump...this is the reason I was thinking in use a dosing pump.
My main question is: Is the dosing pump capable to send down water to reactor (1m below) and due to it´s force/pressure, get water back (1m above) considering reactor presurization ?
Tks in advance.

Regards,

Cássio

Yes, a peristaltic dosing pump can bring water from the tank, to the carx and back. I only have experience running a calcium reactor with Neptune dos and masterflex pumps. Ideally you want one rated to run continuously, but this is not a rule.

Thank you Gablami for your fast feedback.
Yes, I want a continuous flow. Is it a problem for peristaltic pumps ? I know dosing pumps do not work continuously... But have no experience on it. I believe doesn't matter AC or DC pump.
But again, my main concearn is the high between display and reactor.
I'm confident that the pump can flow water down to reactor, but these flow needs to "flow back" based only on the same pump and pressurization.
What so you think ?
Thank you !

Peristaltic pumps are what you want for this application. Depends on the pump, but generally head pressure from height is no problem at all for a peristaltic pump. It is not pumping against much pressure. Finding a good continuous peristaltic pump is not cheap though. And watch out for leaks because going from a tank above down to the carx is a setup for a siphon.

You don’t need two pumps. Just one since a carx is a “closed” system. You can setup to pull or push.

Tks again !
Yes leakage can be a problem, but can be solved.
I never used a peristaltic pump.
Now the next step is to look for a pump.
Which kind of specs should I look for ?
As far as I know, there are pumps with variable rotation, but I don't think it is important.
Even a low flow can be used...
I'm sorry for the amount of questions...
