Dosing pumps are used for dosing at a slower steady pace rather then dumping all at once to keep your ca,alk,and mag steady.You can find out how much you need to dose by checking your parameters and then using a reef calculator,there is a reef calculator here on R2R and bulkreefsupply also has one.

Most dosing type pumps are run on a timer. You find out how much the pump pumps per minute, how much liquid Ca and Alk you need to add per day, and set a multi set timer to dose a number times a day for a few minutes at a time. Toms Aqua lifter is a cheap one that works well on a timer.Here is the pump and a time proof en recipes for Ca and Alk mixes.

IMHO...balling method of dosing is the new wave. We're starting to see more customers switching out their CA Reactors for pump dosing because they want more control over their parameters.

ok so i test cal one day say it 400 ppm i want it to be 450 ppm my tank is 120 gallons how much do i add with the dosing pump ?

You would need a 2 part calculator, like this...
Smart Reef 2 and 3 part solutions

This assumes you are using a diy 2 part.
