Dosing pumps question, most effective/accurate set up?

Title basically says it all.
Been in the hobby for a while but i have never used a dosing pump, both my wife and I work a lot so we don't really leave for vacations or anything. with the new tank ordered and wanting to run this system as stable as possible i was wondering how everyone goes about setting up their dosing pumps, not pertaining to the physical set up, but how you figure out your tanks needs and what your dosing times are. hopefully this makes sense.

Test your tank at the same time for a few days. You should be able to tell how much CA and ALK you use a day. Use the BRS calculator to determine the amount that needs to be dosed.
