Dosing Question

Hi All,

Anyone that could help on the following would be greatly appreciated:

1) Can I dose solely Kalkwasser through my ATO to replenish ca, alk, and mg?

2) Will Kalkwasser also replace trace elements?

3) Can I then dose nopox from a dosing pump to reduce nitrates and phosphates?

4) I’ve heard nopox removes trace elements. Is this myth or fact?

My plan is to set Kalkwasser and nopox on two separate dosing pumps to lower maintence on system and improve consistency of dosing. I will not be dosing any other additives.

Activated carbon is running in the tank in a fluidized reactor.

Tank turnover is 100x.

I prefer dosing kalk instead of ato method. No chance of ato over dosing.

Not a fan. You need to dissolve Kalk into a large volume of water and my concern with using a dosing pump is you could overflow. Unless you installed a float switch, which at that point would make it an ATO.

Dosing pumps dont fail in the on switch, ato will. I dosed a 210 gallon mixed reef for 7 yrs with just kalk being dosed. Mixed up 2 liters a week. Wasnt much work and you get a better heart beat of your tank dosing since you know the actually consumption rather just with evaporation witch can fluctuate throughout the year.

I’m using a Tunez osmillator I’m not worried about failing in on position.

Do you have any thoughts of using Kalk and nopox together for ULM system?

Should be fine. Follow red seas regaments for the nopox. Are you using 2part or balling along with your kalk. I use aquaforest but the methodology is very similar, and i still use kalk mainly to raise and keep my ph stable.

No I’m just using Kalk. This is only for a 55 gallon Red Sea reefer 250. I will have a 5 gallon ATO with Kalk and then a Apex dos dosing nopox. Activated carbon running as well in fluidized reactor.

I have one more dosing pump but I guess I’ll leave it on standby because I don’t have enough for 2 part and Kalk should be enough anyway.

Also putting a 25 watt pentair U.V. sterilizer on it for improved water clarity.
