when we dose something like gfo, chemiclean, or any other supplements/additives, should you dose for the size of your display tank or your whole system(sump and all)?

Your actual water volume of the sump and tank combined is best.

Keep in mind that rock and equipment displace water.

For example, my system is measured to hold 65 gallons but once I have sand, rock and equipment in, the actual water volume is only 45 gallons.

Just a suggestion if your going to use gfo. Use half the amount BRS suggestions so you don’t strip out all the phosphate. Check the PO4 the next day and add more GFO if needed. You don’t want to stress the corals. IMO
