dosing RED SEA CORAL color

I just bought RED SEA CORAL color A, B, C and D
Can anybody help with calculating how much to dose,
It says 1 ml per 10 ml of red sea calcium solution, but Im using BRS formula
2.5 cups (about 400g) of calcium chloride in a gal of water,

Is the concentration the same? that would be 370 ml per gal, I think thats a lot.

Anybody had that figured out?

You need to calculate how much Ca a day you use. Turn off your Ca pump for a day. Takes the reading the day you turn it off and then the next day. Say your reading today is 430ppm and then tomorrow is 420ppm, a round about reading is a usage of 10ppm. So you would dose 1ml of each ABCD. It may vary from day to day but it will give you a general idea. It's also best to pickup the Colors test kit that tests I2, Fe and K. Part D is totally based off of Ca when you test.

As a general rule, Do not add anything you can not test for. And a test kit for the actual elements is best.
 
Thats a possibility,
but I would prefer to combine ABCD with calcium solution, I just need a relation
 
I read somewhere here the ratio was different. I believe it was 1ml of color per 20 or 30ppm Ca if you were using standard BRS 2 part. It's in a thread somewhere on the forum if you search it.
 
Brs actually has a video on it if you click the colors product on their site
 
Brs uses Crystalline Calcium Chloride Dihydrate, I use Calcium Chloride, same thing?

So on BRS video, for every 51ml of calcium solution you dose to the tank, you dose 1ml of colors a b c d?
 
To clarify, say my tank is 350 litres and it doses 15ml calc a day. So in a week i have total of 105ml calc. I have to dose redsea a b c d of 2ml each?
 
Wow, thats even more than i remember reading but yep, thats how i would understand it.

I dose 3ml twice per week now using 25ml of BRS Cal per Day. I may cut back a little bit now knowing the 51/1 ratio.
 
I wanted to confirm that I am dosing the Red Sea Trace Colors correctly so I emailed BRS and now found this R2R thread.
My brain is still confused.
Can anyone clarify for me? :)

85ml of BRS Calcium Chloride solution dosed daily maintains a 440 calcium level in my 150 gal reef. (past 6 months)

I have been dosing A,B,C,D Red Sea trace colors 5ml of each once a week (after water change for more then 6 months).

My yellow slimmer, red monti digita, purple polyp birds-nest, red setosa have faded over the past 2 months with full polyp extension and obvious growth. All LPS have great color. Plating sps have great color (red, green, purple). Wondering if I am dosing too much or too little of the colors. Seems their energy is going toward growth and not color.

This brings us back to the big question. How many ppm of calcium is in 1ml of BRS Calcium Chloride solution (mixed according to their directions)?

The first response from BRS is, " It's tough to say ppm for a mixed solution. I can say though that 1.2ml of a mixed solution will raise 378ml volume by 10ppm." (any mathematicians out there?)

I am planing to purchase the RS trace color test kits next to help solve part of my questions. (Had them years ago and the potassium one was a nightmare to work with. ;Woot)

Hi Wendy, I'm an analytical chemist (not a mathematician, more practical =p), so I can help you out. Unfortunately, the BRS mixing instructions as you posted, or on their container is missing some information. I have used their CaCl2 before and done the calculations on it, but I didn't document. Essentially what I need to know is how many grams are in an 8oz measuring cup? When I make my dosing solutions and do the calculations, I work in grams and milliliters, not ounces and gallons. If you can tell me, empirically, how much mass (do you have a small food balance? That's what I use.) is in 80z, then I can do the math for you.

For anyone else reading this thread, if you want help with some math in the future feel free to pm me.
