Dosing Red Sea NoPox with dosing pump

Hello guys and gals.

I am dosing NoPox with a BRS dosing pump. The liquid seems to completely settle at the bottom of the dosing bottle the top gets clear and the very bottom gets very cloudy. The bottle doesn't require shaking before use but I think it is necessary. Another member suggested to give it a quick shake when feeding but when I do that, it still settles quickly, usually less then one hour. Logic tells me that I need to shake the bottle but I don't know if logic will help me with my dosing plans. I installed my dosing system to avoid having to think about these things like this. Can any one shed any light on this?

NOPOX is just a proprietary blend of some type of acid and alcohol, so I don't know what might be settling out of it. You might just try using plain vinegar, vodka or a blend of the two which some folks believe will create some bacterial bio diversity. I've used both successfully, along with NOPOX, but ultimately went to bio pellets.

It has been shown to be ethanol (as in vodka) and acetic acid (as in vinegar), possibly with some trace metals or other additives put in (which they claim but do not specify).

I do not believe that the cloudiness (likely from the other additives) is needed to be dosed. The organic carbon in it won't precipitate.

I would say give them a call, they might send you another bottle. Can't say I've seen anything in the bottom of my bottles.
And it's not just a carbon source as others suggest. As stated, it also helps other aspects of bacterial colonies "complete their cycles" as to not imbalance the strains present in the aquarium. The imbalance I speak about is known, usually shows itself with the onslaught of cyano. I've seen it with biopellets, vinegar, vodka, vsv, v+v, and it went away after starting nopox.

Is anyone dosing NoPox with a dosing pump. If so, how did you setup you container to prevent evaporation? Any photos would be awesome. Thanks!

I just put mine in a vertex dosing container. They are sealed with an o-ring and a one way air vent on the top. I have it pumped with a neptune dos. One thing that I have noticed, is the liquid in the tubes gets cloudy/milky looking. I don't know if this is a concern or not. Anyone know if you should increase the amount like any other carbon source till you get it down and then go with 1/2 that amount for your maintenance dose? Red sea recommended to only use 8mls max for my tank. But no3 is still not where I would like it.
