I am building a 40 gallon breeder reef tank and I just want to know about the basics of dosing my tank. What will I need to dose? I’m planning on having a lot of corals in the tank and also do I need to feed my corals and what do I feed my corals?

If you are just starting out weekly water changes alone with a high ALK and CAL salt will be fine. It took me a year to get to the point where I needed to start dosing.

When you do finally get to the point where water changes won't keep up with the consumption, something like BRS 2-part will work just fine. I use the BRS 2 part (bought in the largest size to reduce costs even more), and use a pair of BRS 1.1ml dosing pumps connected to digital lamp timers. Easy to use, easy to dial in, great price. IMHO, hard to beat.

What are the dosing pumps called?
