I stepped back into the hobby this month and thought a small tank will do nicely.
I purchased:
- pre-owned biocube 29 that already had:
-- 2 extra powerheads
-- hydor slim skim
-- UV light
-- 2x white & 2x blue led strips already built in

The tank still had live sand in it and I immediately replaced the bulbs with CF 1x actinic, 1x 10k.

- 30lbs of reef ready rock
- 10 tiny hermits
- 10 blackfoot snails
- serpent star (hitchhiked for free)
- peppermint shrimp (ate the aiptasia then molted and died)

tank cycled quickly, it's been 4 weeks and i bought a wrasse and blenny. wrasse didn't acclimate well and passed. blenny is doing REALLY WELL!!!

I bought a APEX JR to monitor everything and I have purchased a number of corals already.
- duncan
- monti
- loads of zoas & palys
- mush and rics
- kenya tree
- chalice
- star polyps

WHAT I WANT TO DO...
I would love for this tank to keep sps and all other corals, while keeping a pair of clowns with an anemone. I understand that the anemone is the danger part, b/c if it dies the tank could crash.

for now i need to make sure i'm dosing my tank properly and keeping the correct parameters.
thankfully the apex jr saved my tank the first day when the water temp hit 86 and turned off the lights and now my tank sits at 76(night)-79(day).

what do you guys suggest for dosing and temp and what things to monitor the most?
i don't plan on keep many fish to keep the waste down, but some to keep the corals happy.
Thanks in advance, Brandon

i forgot to mention the red algae already has grown and slowly going away. light timing would also help me. can i do a time period at anytime? such as 8hrs but from 2pm-10pm?

Ok so here it is

Ita hard to see the apogee reads 200 almost halfway down directly under the bulb, yea my gf grew some acros but it really isnt recommended to use thw stock pcs for it, montis chalice pectinia acans zoas shrooms all do fine , she runs her stock leds from 10 am to 11 pm, her blue actinic from 12 to 10 and whites from 1 to 9,,,, everyone i see had a problem with temp and a biocube when all u have to do is leave the back open

here is what? 19.9 C? = 68 F... isn't that pretty chilly?
Lololol with the heater in the back chamber keeps her temp from 78.6 to 79.1 ONLY if you keep the back latch open (edit also note that if it reaches over 79.5 apex shuts off heater witch only happened twice in 2 years)

I keep my back and front hatches open right now b/c my STEAM heat in this old building can spike from time to time.
Also, I asked my LFS what to dose with and they said "Purple Up" which I didn't think was for coral vs live rock, but again, I'm starting from semi-novice again.
ACAN didn't do well but he's recovering on the bottom, I may have had him too high in the tank.

The chalice, and duncan are doing awesome at the top of the tank, the monti seems to be mediocre right now.

Ok, so one LFS is off my buying list from what a number of people have told me here. I always thought they were good though. Next I'll get some more probes for my Apex so that I can monitor the other stuff.

What would you consider to be the most important probes to have in a tank after temp?
