I watched a video recently and it was stated you should not be dosing trace elements on reefs younger than a year or two but never explained why. I have a box of red sea Trace Colors ABCD and I was wondering what opinions are on dosing trace elements on young reefs. My current setup is only 4 months old coralline growth has recently exploded and I have both SPS and LPS. I have been dosing 2 part for a while now and according to the BRS calculator I need to dose 2.5 ml of ABCD every 7 days.
I run an algae scrubber, skimmer, and do 5% water changes weekly with standard IO salt. BRS states trace elements are depleted roughly at the same rate as your calcium. My thought process is that if I have to dose 2 part to keep up with nutrient demand, even with water changes, then why would I not need to dose trace elements as well?
For reference this is where I try to keep my levels.
Salinity 35ppt
Mag 1450
Alk 8.6
Calc 420
No3 16ppm
Po4 .16
