Hello all,

I just started dosing Vinegar, I am on day 3 today. Current dose is 20ml for 700ish gallons of water. Nitrates were 50 and Phosphates were .18. Now I know that these numbers are not terrible but they are elevated. I would like to get them down to 5-10 and .1

Question,
With that being said, the past 2 days (as i just dosed right now for day 3) my SPS have had greater polyp extension and my phosphates are down to .11 Is this the effects of the vinegar? Should I see changes this early in the dosing regimen?

Tank is looking the best it has ever, which if you followed along my journey you would see that I had a lot of issues getting to where I am. I am coming up on year 2 (10 Nov) now and I am having some success. Growth and polyp extension are 2 of the things. I am now trying to fine tune it and start to get that color that everyone strives for. Thanks all for the advice that you all share, my success thus far is because of this forum!

Mike

Friendly Bump :)

Thanks for the bump!

Nothing new to report, today was day 4, which meant I went from 20ml to 40ml. Phosphates were .1 and nitrates have not moved really.

I will say that everything is still looking really great!
With carbon dosing I’d be careful not to bottom out phosphates .
even after cutting the dose it will still continue on the downward trend

It should take longer than 3 days to see a change in levels. Three weeks or longer is typical

yeah, I have upped my feeding to try and get an idea of what I can do to raise/lower it. I know I can feed 2 cubes and some flake and stay around the .15 zone. Today I fed 3 cubes and some flake, I will see what it is tomorrow. Goal would be to be able to feed heavy and keep the parameters and my goals

There is a train of thought with carbon dosing that the increase in bacteria in the water makes it easier for corals to uptake phosphate via bacteria consumption.

I have had to stop the dosing of the vinegar because I was afraid I was gunna bottom them out. Right now I am feeding heavy and they are .07, which I know I can go lower, but I is afraid, LOL!! In other news, my nitrates are down also, from 50 they are now between 10-25.
