Hi guys what is meant by dosing is this water change?

Dosing is not doing water changes. Dosing is the term used for adding things to your tank. For example, Calcium, Bacteria, Amino Acids, etc. You'll also see it with respect to 2-part dosing meaning that what is being does is both Alkalinity and Calcium. There is a lot of stuff to add to your tank, but the most important thing everyone will tell you is to make sure that you are first measuring your parameters with a good quality test kit before putting anything in your tank and then testing again to make sure you are getting what you are expecting.

I know I always wanted to dose thinking it was an important part of reef-keeping, which it is, but I think it is something that increases with importance as your tank ages. Since the tank is going through so many swings at the beginning it doesn't make sense to me to chase numbers at the time by dosing, but that's just me.

No, you won't need to two part dose with a folwr system. Dosing is mainly done to maintain parameters for coral health.
