can someone help me understand how this dosing works? I’m attempting to get my alk to 8.3 where it is now. Cal I was at 425. I dosed 2oz of calcium expecting it to go up but it went down to 400. I also dosed alk of 4oz cause it was 7.9 and calculator said that was the number to dose. Mag is at 1275 down from 1305 yesterday. What could/should I do to get cal to 450 where I would like to keep it and mag 1350?

What are you dosing to raise the levels and what test kits are you using to determine those levels?

Using Esv bi onic for cal and alk. Red Sea for mag
I’m using Hanna checker for Alk
Salifert for cal and mag

Tank size and amount dosed?
I dose Randys baked baking soda solution if my alk falls. In my 600 gallon system it takes 70ml to raise it 0.2 I use a hanna alk checker.

I would retest just to make sure your levels are where you think they are so you don't accidentally overdose.
What is your total water volume?

Using Esv bi onic for cal and alk. Red Sea for mag

Total water volume roughly around 320.
But I only dosed 4oz of the cal

IMO think of alk & calcium more in terms of ranges, rather than absolute values. Stability is key. This article might be helpful

That’s my target stability. Would like to keep alk between 8-8.5. Cal 420-450. Mag 1300-1350
