dosing

What does your tank have in it for corals? And do you test regularly?

i have bunch of zoas a clam 2 indo elegance torches hammers frogspawn couple of meat corals tank is a reefer 750xxl 200 gallons i test alk 2x a day

Is your Alk dropping significantly everyday? And what is your water change schedule?

i was dosing 20ml manually of alk it was steady at 8.5 but then it went up to 8.8 overnight i test at 4am then when i get home i try to test at 4pm but sometimes its earlier or later when is it a good time to test i was thinking of getting the trident but not sure if its worth it i also have a dos and ddr for cal n alk but its still sealed in the box collecting dust i was thinking of getting another one for mag and aminos

I have a trident set up now, it’s nice. But when I manually tested I tested the same time everyday. Sounds like your water changes are doing the job for now keep checking and once your corals grow and you add more corals there may be a need for dosing then.

still confused as far as my parameters calcium goes up and down for some reason i was dosing but stopped as it was high already tested saturday got 509 didnt test sunday tested yesterday and got 465 tested today and its 499 dont understand it as far as alk its 8.8 to 8.7 wanna get it to 8.5 how would i go about it

For your swing in calcium I would not worry about that is fine as long as they are in range which they are. As far as lowering Alk would suggest a small water change or wait until you do your routine water change. Keep testing them your doing good.

Why do you want to lower your Alk though? Everything seems to be fine with your numbers. If your coral seem happy and you aren't getting crazy swings go with the 'if it aint broke' mentality.

I’m using tropic Marin bit I don’t test alk when I make a fresh batch I just make sure salinity is the same as my tank should I be testing it as well b4 putting it in the tank

Some people do but I don’t I was just curious to what you where using. That’s a nice salt I use myself.

Some of my branching hammer seemed to close a bit I moved them to see if that helps before trying anything else

I was using Red Sea blue bucket but change. To the tropic Marin haven’t gone back how long do u mix it for I let’ mines mix 24 hours is that overkill
