hello all,

quick question regarding water changes and dosing. on days when you perform water changes, do you skip the dosing that day and let the fresh salt water replenish the minerals?

Dosing if automated, leave the cycle run. If manual, I skip for a couple of days, test and add accordingly what is needed

If the salt mix is close to the tank parameters, the water change does not do anything significant for those parameters.

Never hurts to repeat good advice. :)

IMO, the best way to dose a two part that is adding more than 0.3 dKH a day is by dosing pump during the day only, for alk, and calcium manually once a day, or by pump at any time.

I am doing 24 even doses alk/calcium your saying this is not the way you recommend? I don't have a monitor so I don't actively notice alk swings from day to night, only when I am checking manually every 24hrs during a dose increase/decrease otherwise I check every 3-4 days with hanna. .

Do you get that much of a jump in alk at night to mess with times and ratios with both parts? Or could you say thats being "picky"(for lack of better vocabulary).....thank you randy I know your busy, im going to look more into your advice and information, since it is your recipe and all:) thats so cool to say, O.P if you haven't already check it out expert advice there!

There are several possible ways and the differences may vary by tank.

1. Dosing alk during the day only leads to more alk stability as most alk is used then in most tanks
2. Dosing high pH alk supplements at night only helps keep the pH minimum from getting as low.
3. Dosing 24/7 strikes a balance between these.

Which is better? Not sure, but certainly it depends on how low the pH gets and how much alk is actually dosed each day.
