I just saw my dottyback picking at a hermit crab, and then I found this:

I asked about this in a previous thread, and some told me it was just a molted skin, but this looks like something literally ripped it out of its shell.

Its hard to see I’m not sure what I’m looking at. Check the shell and wait for it to come out.

No, I mean it looks like the hermit crab has literally been ripped completely out of its shell.

You can see it’s legs and pinchers in color and the rest of the blob is white, resembling tissue?

I freaked out too when I first saw their molts. It basically looks exactly the same with everything intact. Feel its shell it won’t come out from it, but the weight will tell you if its actually inside.

Ahh, ok. So the molt looks exactly like the real thing? Because it’s legs are colored, which freaked me out.
