How big is your tank? Other tankmates?

Orchid dottybacks are usually peaceful, but neons can be testy with other similar sized/shaped fish (i.e. Wrasses, gobies, other dottybacks) If the tank is very large with lots of caves and separate territories for the two, it could work. For a smaller tank, I'd choose one. Personally, I'd go with the orchid.

Unless the tank is gigantic, it will likely not work out. As said above orchids are pretty peaceful, and neons are a lot more assertive.

I'd echo the above, neon are bigger and far grumpier. You could house more than one fridmani or mix it with a more peaceful species like sankeyi (albeit not as pretty as a neon). I've bred neons and even keeping two together is risky.

I have a 34 gal right now. My 110 is about 2 mo from water at this point. In the 34 is 2 flurry clown,Coral beauty, sixline wrasse and a neon dottyback. I like the neon and the orchid so I was wondering if they would co habitate in the 110 jjn the future.

IMO the 110 is not big enough for a neon dottyback to cohabitate with any other dottyback.

The neon will grow out to about 4" and be larger and more aggressive than the orchid; seems like you'd be taking a chance putting them together. Maybe the orchid in your 34? They are both great fish, just not together.

Again I'd echo the guys above but I've seen them mixed in similar tanks before so you might find people who have done it if you look hard enough. The problem is I'd suggest this is a temporary situation at best.
With the ones I bred, where I kept a few, they mature nasty but not to the extend of wild ones and ocassionally you see a real softy.

I know there are hybrids of them with springers dottybacks (which ime are very similar in temperament to fridmani) but I'm unsure whether these were the result of a pair bonding or human interference (ie artificial insemination).

How about having one orchid dotty with a royal gramma? Yes, I know they are of different geniuses, but they look a lot alike as far as shape and coloration goes.

If added simultaneously, or if the tank is 48+" and the gramma is in first, it can work.

I kept a orchid and springeri dottyback together with no issues. Added them at the same time into a 125 gallon and never had a problem.
