Currently battling ich and hair algae in my four month old 90 gallon (future) reef tank. Due to an order mix up I ended up with a 9 Watt and a 5 Watt Coralife UV Steralizer. I currently have the output of the 9 watt going into the input of the 5 watt, so that it gets another round of exposure time through the second unit.
I dont know the exact flow rate, but I them hooked into a RIO 382 GPH pump dialed back about 60%. Is this double UV configuration that I have going on even accomplishing anything? Would I be better off just running them both seperate, one at at a high flow rate for the algae, and the other for the ich? Did I waste my money and end up with cheapo units that just arent strong enough?
Once I end up getting both ich and algae under control, I would like to run one of those units just as a preventative measure for parasites. If I kept it at a slow flow rate, would I be able to run the output of the UV, into my GFO reactor? Thinking this would save me from running so many pumps in the sump, but wasnt sure is this was acceptable practice.
