Downgrading form 60 gallon to 10 gallon

so I’m moving and couldn’t take my 60 gallon. I was wondering if i have to restart the whole cycle process of the 10 gallon or could I transfer rock , water , and sand ?

You can transfer the rocks and the water but I would advise that you use new sand or clean the old sand before putting it in , otherwise you run the risk of releasing all the trapped gases and detritus and you could end up with an ammonia spike ...

You will probably end up with some sort of small cycle with the transfer but so long you keep your rocks wet it will be minimal , personally I would use new sand and wash it in rodi and add it too the tank and add extra bacteria too the tank too help seed the sand again ....

Here’s a top tip too add sand ... take a plastic bottle , 1ltr -would be good size for your tank .. cut the bottom off keep the lid on lightly and fill with your sand ... slowly lower the bottle in the tank and remove the lid near the bottom where you want too place sand .. it will funnel out and you can place it where you want .. if you’ve cleaned the sand well your water won’t cloud up ...

It should be fine because you use the same rock and water, so there will be lots of bacteria in there .. you can always add sand later !!

I’ll try the bare bottom look and if i don’t like it all add sand , thanks for all your help

I have an idea of having GSP to grown on the bottom of the tank but is there anyway I can prevent from growing on the rock ?

Hi, was just seeing if there was an update on how everything went? I have a 75g with a 40g sump that I may not be able to keep in the new place. Purchased a 30g AIO cube I was gonna use to downgrade.
