So with the new baby and back surgery I decided my 125gal tank was too much to maintain. I went with a 40 gallon breeder from Petco. I wanted to get some advice on whether to run a sump or is some of the newer backpack filtration and skimmer a good enough option these days to run a successful mixed reef. Thanks

Run a sump if you can find sometime to drill it for you. The hob is never as good as the in sump models

Oops double post

I recently set up a 40B, definitely drill the tank and setup a sump, it makes it a million times nicer. On a small tank like this real estate comes in handy

I agree with the above. I would run a sump. I have a 29 without and a 50 with. The sump just makes so many things easier. Hides all the equipment. All in ones will cut you short on space for all the equipment imo.

Can you drill the 40 gallon tanks? From petco? I also already filled the tank up could I drill it while being set up?

Questionable but I wouldn't risk it if already full
