Hi, I currently have a 25-gallon reef tank. It’s been getting hard to care for lately now that I’ve been getting more work from school, so I was thinking of going down to a ten-gallon. It sucks because I just purchased a Viparspectra and might have been able to get a cheaper LED if I waited. If I were to downgrade, would this light be too strong? If so, I think I might just wait the downgrade out. I would be looking to keep mostly softies and LPS, maybe even one or two SPS later down the road. Currently just own a torch, duncan, BTA, GSP, palys, mushroom, and favia. Fish are clown pair, royal gramma, and pistol shrimp.

So...just an opinion before you downgrade. I don't see much of difference between caring for 25 gallon as a 10 gallon. Sounds like you already have low maintenance live stock and corals and adding softies to that would be easy.

Now if there are other reasons - space and/or cost...ok. Just not seeing time savings in that downgrade.

The Viparspectra has dimmers so it can be used over any depth of tank. I use a Photon V2 that is a bit more powerful than the Viparspectra (a lot of 5 watt leds) over a 16g tank that is only 14" tall.

It’s mostly cost and appearance that is the problem. I’m thinking a smaller tank would look more visually appealing than a bigger one considering I don’t have a ton of money to fill up a bigger tank. It looks very empty right now and I don’t see it looking much better anytime soon. If that makes sense.

Awesome, thank you !

I currently have the blues at 40 and whites at 25. Do you think I’d need to lower everything for the smaller tank?

If the new, smaller tank is shallower, probably, but not much. If they are the same depth, the same setting should be fine.
