Downside to blowing detritus around tank?

I know this sounds silly and will probably be laughed at... but I just used a hose for my manifold and raised my pump will opening the gate valve and just nearly blast rinsed my fuge.

I then let the water and everything get sucked through my return pump/ go through my tank as some sort of like nutrient export to the tank ? I don’t have any fish right now just corals and they seemed to all extend and grab everything!

Any real downsides? My fuge isn’t much cleaner unfortunately and now I have some detritus on my heater and whatnot but nothing major.

Anyone ever do this? I did it with intention of the crappy stuff ran through my poly fil and cleaned it up!

Not really, if anything your coral frags will love it and probably will have their feeder tentacles out.

I Agree, no problem doing that. I get lots of stuff kicked up when I clean the display or the sump on my tank. Everything always clear up within a couple hours. my coral also do seem to like it. My torch always seems to find something to eat when I clean soemthing in the tank. Or at least has the same response as when being fed. As long as you have decent flow in your display, it should stay in suspension and make it's way back to the sump to be cleaned up.

I have actually added a few powerheads to my sump to help keep everything churned up. keeps the sump looking nicer, and *might* help my live rock in the sump work better since it has more water passing over it.

Is there such thing as too much flow in a sump / in a fuge?

I’d like to open a gate valve off my manifold more to allow more flow through my fuge and to overall get more use out of my pump as it is only on level 2 of 5 currently with it feeding my return and manifold which has a line To my fuge and carbon reactor

I'd say as long as you're not ripping up your macro algeas or making too much noise in the sump there's not really a limit where more flow would be harmful. i have a Mag 9 (900gph) and (2) 1300gph powerheads in my sump. My sump is 125 gallons though.

The only down side is that debris settles into the cracks and crevices of your rock depending on how course the rock is. I've got 100's maybe 1000's of mini brittle stars in my ocean collected live rock. So it feeds my other critters too.

Two things to use if you want to do this and keep your tank clean. One get a small canister filter and set it up with filter floss to remove detritus.
Second you can use a Maineland polishing filter to run diatomaceous earth to clean your water while you clean your tank.
