Hey guys, just wondering if you have any insight on negative effects of changing out my sump?
I'm thinking about upsizing from a 25g to maybe a 40g and including a compartment for frags.
I currently have my skimmer, filter floss, some rubble, a hermit and some snails in there, that's about it.

I changed mine out a little over a year ago. I questioned the LFS asking if it would cause a cycle again in my tank (running since about 2005). He told me absolutely not... :-/
It did cause a mini cycle. I was able to control with water changes which I do weekly anyway. Went through that quickly though and the health of the tank did improve. I don't recall if I lost any corals during that time, don't think I did.

Hmmm... Maybe I should just add on a section and drill/cut one end of the current sump to allow water to flow through to the return pump..... or consider a separate frag tank plumbed into the system.....
My tank is still recovering from a somewhat recent event where I had some STN and lost a piece or 2 of coral so I wouldn't want to cause another cycle just yet.

I would just set up the new sump and once everything is settled add the frags. Are you going to use live rock in the sump? Maybe a few pieces from the display?
