Dr Tims fishless cycle

Finally have my nitrites down to .5 ppm and ammonia at 0 ppm so I dosed a 3 ppm ammonia shot into the tank this morning. I was worried that it had stalled but like everyone says just wait.........and POW ! It is nice to see that the bacteria is doing its job.

heck yeah!! patience is KEY! I know its not the easiest thing to wait out, im there myself. Hard to have a beautiful, ready to go tank..sitting there "empty".

Now that your nitrites dropped and you added ammonia, test again tomorrow morning(24 hours after addition). Hopefully, your ammonia reading will be zero or very close to it, and Im guessing your nitrites will continue to be high for a little while longer. Sounds like the bacteria are building, but not quite there.
once again, keep testing until the nitrites drop then add more ammonia. wash, rinse, repeat.

Im pretty much at the same point in my cycle. Ammonia gets used in about 24 hours, but nitrites dont drop below .5 for a couple days.

Soon, your tank will be ready to go!

So I'm going to test tomorrow but like you said I bet it will be a couple more days till the nitrites come down again.......but still nice to see the ppm swing knowing that all is going good.

Okay seems like the tank can take a 3ppm ammonia dose down to 0 ppm in 2 days(also 0 ppm nitrite) so not much longer.... So when it can take down overnight I'm gonna do a 25% water change cause its still only at 20 ppm nitrates... then I am going to add my small clean up crew(4 pieces) for the brown algae and add 1 fish (still undecided) and turn on my protein skimmer. Is there anything I'm forgetting?
