Dr.Tim's one and only live bacteria?

I have used BIO-Spira, Dr. Tims and Macrobacter 7, all have successfully cycled a tank within a month or less depending on the medium/rock filtration used.

I've used it before. I didn't notice any appreciable difference with or without it.

I used it on my last start up . AS Directed, Poured in,added two fish, no ammonia, light nitrite, then nitrate. All pretty smooth and stress free cycle for fish.

Works if you follow the directions. Do not use fish for the cycling.

Bio Spira has always worked for me from 4 setups and QT set ups.

Interesting point that applies in ten percent of posted cycles: dr tims or any other bottled bac isn't required, though unharmful to add, in the type of cycle where someone brings home live rock from the pet store. Bottled bac of any brand are indicated for dry rocks cycling, live rocks don't lose their filtration bacteria as long as they're not dried out. One type of cycle needs the establishment of bacteria, and one type of cycle doesn't (live rock transfers to new tanks)
So if you are dry rock cycling, dr tims is great

Thank you for the reply. My rock was dry and I ran it through a bleach solution for 3 days and rinsed it changing the water every 3 days for two weeks and then added Prime

Dr. Tim's ammonium chloride is on its way. But has anyone had any luck with dr. Tims one and only live bacteria?
My last start up was with dry rock and Dr. Tims One and Only.
I'm happy with the results.

why not get live sand from a buddy or live rock....

I have used successfully to start 3 tanks in the past 1.5 years. I printed and used the following: http://store.drtimsaquatics.com/assets/images/recipes/DrTims_Fishless_Cycling_Recipe_27Mar15.pdf
Read the *Precautions at the bottom.. very important!

Also.. be very careful of the amount of drops used. There has been some confusion with the included instructions.
  • Day 1 – dose ammonia to 2 ppm ammonia-nitrogen [NH3-N] using our ammonium chloride (1 drop per gallon [After Nov 2016 when using DrTim’s ammonium chloride use 4 drops per gallon]) [NOTE: do not expect your test kit to exactly read 2 ppm and it is not critical to get exactly 2 ppm. The key is to not add too much ammonia]. If using DrTim’s Aquatics One & Only Live Nitrifying bacteria add it now (turn skimmer, UV and ozone off and remove filter socks for 48 hours).
Do not add 4 drops per gallon without monitoring the ammonia. I have read of people who have dosed 4 drops only to end up with 4 times what they wanted. To be safe I have always used 1 drop even though the last time I used it, it was well after 11/2016.

Let me add that you do not need to keep dosing ammonia once it hits 2.0 just wait. Test, wait, test, wait, test. Once it gets back down 0 I add a little. Maybe get it up to 1.0. After that just wait. Over all the cycle should take 2 weeks or so, maybe as long as a month. Rather than use ammonia the second round I use a table shrimp. Toss that in about 1 week after the first ammonia dose, Let it cook for a few days. That feeds the bacteria rather than having to keep adding ammonia.
