Hello All,

So for those that don't know i have been battling a bad case of cyano of the past few months. I finally found the source (bad RO/DI for LFS) and been using distilled instead for the past 2 months. Things have turned around dramatically - Cyano almost gone and even hair/turf algae actually slowed down growing.
Now here is my questions:

I never used the Dr. Tim's Refresh or Waste Away i ordered. But i received both and was thinking about just using the Waste Away to add a knock blow for the cyano. The Refresh seems more chemical based and more potent so i will avoid it.

-Who has actually used Dr. Tim's Waste Away?
- What is in it exactly? Cant really find that info.
- Any pros or cons i should be aware of?
- Do you think it is worth it to dose? I am planning a half or even 1/4 dose just to help clear up the tank.

Thanks for any info!!

-Jason

use the refresh first and than the waste away, it works well but.....

be very careful if you have acros because both refresh and waste away wreak havoc on your alk so make sure it's about 7-8 dkh before using it

So are you talking about increase on Alk? Go to know...i will watch my numbers. Also i was thinking that Refresh really is to clean the water which it what i have been doing with my increased water changes. My water looks amazing...i just need to rid of some junk on rocks and sand.

Do i have to use Refresh?

yes make sure you alk is on the low end just like if you were dosing a carbon source, you want it close as possible to nsw levels

and yes you can use just the waste away with great results, takes about 3 weeks to really see the difference

especially if you have acros, I used waste away with no regard to my alk and peeled a bunch of acros

Thanks for the advice!! Right now i just have a Cap but i will keep things in Check.

I almost crashed my tank due to that ! My fault...i made a mistake measure it and little overdose so i did a quick water change and its back to normal and FYI it will drop PH so go EASY and start with LOW dose.

Yes, I agree go slow, even as much as a 1/4 dose to start and increase to 1/2 the following week and so on until your at a full dose. This will prevent a bacterial bloom from occuring
