I just plumbed in my ClariSea to my Red Sea Reefer, and had planned on using Dr. Tims, but the drain is plumbed directly into the ClariSea. Is it sufficient enough to just open the gate and turn off the unit as you should not use the mechanical filtration for the first 48 hours?

So basically you just don't want the bacteria to stick on something that it going to be tossed out. They are not going to exclusively settle there, but it could slow initial cycling down if you removed some of them when you take the roll out. If you can have them pass the filter roll, then it's not an issue.

You sort of can. There is the gate that opens to let water out not having to go through the roll. It likely does not keep all the water from going through though. But a large majority of it.

That should be fine then. I wouldn't stress over it too much
