So is there a safe period as to when to add a dragonet based on visually seeing your pod population? At two months with a ball of cheato from a very established tank this current system has pods scatted all over the glass I can see. With that being said is there a certain point where that translates to a healthy enough population to support a dragonet?

I'd say wait! I'm on my second one. And I'm watching him die. So thin. 425 L tank loads of rock. And I put live copepods in weekly! Still doesn't eat..

At first, my dragonet only ate copepods in my 10G tank. They were depleted within a week.
Then I hatched baby brine shrimp every 2-3 days for dragonet.
I put small acrylic box as the feeding box every time I put BBS for dragonet. After 2-3 weeks with BBS, then I mixed frozen mysis with live BBS. As long as there's a flow then the mysis would sway/moving, making dragonet eat them. After a while then my dragonet can eat mysis. No longer copepod/BBS crisis.

Now I'm training it to eat pellet.
