Hello all, I'm new to this forum so I'll just give a little background on my aquarium experience first. I have a 40 gallon semi-reef tank housing the following creatures:
a soft coral (I have no idea of the species, apologies), two button polyps, a flame firefish
a peacock wrasse, a watchman goby, a midas blenny and two mandarin dragonets. The tank also contains several tens of kilograms of live rock and a small, makeshift in-tank refugium growing copepods (for my ever-hungry dragonets!). I have had this tank for around 6 months, with the latest arrivals coming in about 3 months ago. All has been well in the tank, most of the fish feeding on a mix of mysis, brineshrimp and flake foods. Recently, a friend has been in the process of moving house and has decided not to take his fish with him. He had a snowflake eel that he managed to shift, but is also in possession of a fuzzy dwarf lion fish which he is having more trouble with. I've read up as much as I can on lion fish, and I'd be quite happy to provide for it. However, I'm not in a position to buy another tank, and I'm assuming that any lion fish is going to eat most of the fish in my tank. I like to err on the side of caution, and normally I wouldn't even consider taking the lion fish, but due to the difficulty he's having I thought it best to find out for sure from some more experienced reefers. The smallest fish in the tank are the mandarins, at about 5cm, so I've used them as the basis for the question, but obviously I need to consider my other fish as well. So, will a lion fish simply eat some/all of the other critters in my tank?
TL;DR: Can mandarin dragonets and a fuzzy dwarf lionfish co-exist in a 40 gallon tank?
