Hello,
I have a durso (http://www.deepblueprofessional.com/assets/reef-plumbing-kit-assembly-diagram-2-.pdf for reference) with 1" bulkhead. Flow capacity rated 600 gph as normal.
Plumbing for the drain pipe is about 2.5' from bottom of the tank to the sump, with 2 45 degree elbows. I have also put in a reverse durso. Drain pipe is about 2" under the sump water level.
My return pump is Syncra 3.0 (rated 714 gph). The lowest setting is 227.4 gph (return is vinyl tubing).
Basically, if I have the return pump set at the lowest setting (with head loss, a mere trickle lol), everything is silent (overflow + drain). The drain pipe does not gurgle or make noise.
However, if I increase the return pump even 1 notch, the drain into the sump starts doing a "hot tub" effect of bubbling and becoming noisy; this effect increases as I increase the return pump flow. I can turn it to full capacity and the overflow handles it fine (DT doesn't overflow), but the drain into the sump becomes a super hot tub of bubbling and noise (to the point where water splashes out of my reverse durso).
Been doing a lot of searching but haven't been able to find any clear answers. Appreciate the help!
edit: Also, the overflow water level and DT water level are maybe 2"? of difference, so the water trickles down quietly into overflow at lowest setting, if that matters
