Drain line from tank to sump

I'm in the process of plumbing my sump. I currently have one 1 1/2" drain line for my 240 gallon. I was thinking of adding a Tee fitting so that I would have 2 lines going into my sump. I was thinking this so that I could add 2 filter socks instead of only 1. Would this cause any issues?

What are you doing for an overflow? And what type of drain are you doing?... Herbie, Durso, Stockman, Bean etc?

I would love to do a herbie but I was just planning on doing a durso since I only have one drain line. I have an internal overflow at one of the ends of the tank which is drilled on the bottom

You think? It sounds smaller than it actually looks. 2" would be ginormous but I never had a tank this size so I don't actually know what size people usually use

Well I have a 90 gallon and mine has a 1 inch

Thanks for the input. You guys have me thinking now. What if I used both holes which are traditionally one drain and one return as two drains? then I would run a return line just over the tank?

That's what I do with my tank. I split the return at a T and send it to 2 Sea-swirls to get more random flow. If you have 2 holes consider setting up a Herbie for silent operations - but that might kill the idea of splitting the drain at a T - If you run a siphon it may not like the T split. I use a Bean animal setup with a Synergy overflow and need to keep the siphon line uninterrupted.

I split a 1.5 drain into 2 -1" drains for 2 socks. Works fine with over 1000 gph flow which is 4x and should be fine for your tank.

I have a 250 and I have 2 2" drains with two 1" returns. I a using this overflow. It's overkill, but it's so slim and so quiet that Im glad I did.

I would of liked something like that but I'll make do with what I have until I get a new tank. I kind of like the one overflow being at the end. With my gyre at the other end the flow works out pretty good

Yeah, the thing I liked about this overflow is you put in on the back wall and it takes up no real estate at all.

The drain is sized by the amount of water you want to move. I would think 1-1/2 would be ok. Depends on the size of the pump you plan to use. A 1-1/2" drain should handle 2100 gph.
