Hello,

I am setting up a sump for my biocube and plan to use 1 siphon and 1 emergency overflow in the back 3rd chamber of the stock biocube. Is there any reason not to just use a straight pipe for both the siphon and the emergency/trickle pipe?

Plan to use a valve on the base of the siphon drain, and adjust it to trickle to the emergency. Is the only reason to use a "u" shape inlet to keep things out of the drain, and to allow a place [top of the tee] for an air purge/inlet line?

Thanks!

I found some info on GMAC which shows straight standpipes for the Herbie setup. I believe this means I should be fine, and also that a strainer or something is just a safeguard to keep snails/fish out of the pipe.

I wanted to use spaflex for my drain lines, however when I was at Lowes ready to get some cut, the sch40 pvc pieces were too big for the spaflex line. Does anyone have feedback/info on why the sch40 didn't fit at Lowes? I've noticed many people combining spaflex plumbing with pvc connectors
